Beyond The Obvious
Who this is for
Not everything needs to be “wrong” for you to want to talk.
Sometimes you just want:
- A space that's yours
- A converstation that isn't rushed
- A way to understand yourself better
Whether you’re working through something specific, or just trying to make sense of things as they come… this space holds both.
About Me
Rutuja Kulkarni
I’m Rutuja, a Counseling Psychologist based in Tokyo, with roots in India. I’ve been working in the mental health space for over 7 years.
A lot of the people I work with aren’t necessarily in crisis. They’re functioning, showing up, doing what they need to… but still find themselves overthinking, questioning, or feeling more than they’d like to. Not everything is “wrong”, but something doesn’t sit right either.
That’s the space I work in.
My approach is thoughtful and grounded. I draw from modalities like CBT, Psychodynamic Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Interpersonal Therapy, but I don’t believe in making therapy feel rigid or one-size-fits-all. The process is shaped around you, your pace, and what feels important to you.
Over time, the focus is on helping you understand your thoughts, your patterns, and your responses a little more clearly, so things feel less confusing, and a little easier to navigate.
I aim to create a space where you can talk openly, reflect honestly, and take your time making sense of things, without feeling judged, rushed, or reduced to a label.
Conversations matter. Context matters. You matter.

What you can bring to your sessions
You don’t need to fit into a specific category to start. People come in with things like:
- Relationships (romantic, family, friendships)
- Life transitions (moving countries, career shifts, new phases)
- Overthinking and decision-making
- Feeling stuck or unclear about what’s next
- Wanting to understand themselves better
Sometimes it’s one thing. Sometimes it’s a mix.
We work with whatever you bring.
